A unique way to experience Kilauea Volcano at sunset, Evening Volcano Explorer offers an exciting experience for guests of many ages to enjoy. Each fully narrated adventure begins with a picnic-style lunch, then proceeds with a visit to the renowned Punalu’u black-sand beach. Guests can also enjoy a delicious dinner at the Volcano House, as well as volcanic activity as the sun sets in the evening.
How long is the experience?
The entire tour lasts approximately 11 hours.
Will I see volcanic activity?
We cannot guarantee that guests will see red molten lava or volcanic activity.
What happens in the case of rain?
Tours occur rain or shine. In the case of severe weather, a judgment call will be made.
Can you accommodate my food allergy or dietary restrictions for the picnic lunch?
Yes, if given advance notice.
Is this tour physically demanding?
Guests should be able to walk unattended and climb stairs. Guests with respiratory concerns should be cautious of the volcanic emissions (which include sulfur gas).
By state law, children under the age of 4 are required to use a child safety seat. Provide advance notice to avoid a charge. Booster seats are required for children ages 4 through 7 or those under 4' 9" and weighing less than 80 pounds.
Am I required to go on the tour with my child?
Yes. All guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent.
What should I wear on the tour?
Guests should wear comfortable clothing and closed shoes.
